Victoria Vacation - 2007

The crew of My Jewel Boutique snuck away for a mini-trip to Victoria, BC to rest up before the holiday rush. We enjoyed a ferry trip from Port Angeles, Washington to the Victoria Harbor on the Coho Ferry run by the Black Ball Ferry Company. An hour and a half ride, just long enough to get out and enjoy the sites. Arriving at the harbor at 6:30pm was perfect. The Empress Hotel was bathed in late afternoon sunlight and looked magnificent. The harbor was dotted with huge private yachts and tiny singly-manned canoes.

We debarked and made our way to The Lord Nelson Bed and Breakfast in the University area. The couple that owned it were amazing, warm, generous, and made our stay so comfortable. The first evening was spent enjoying the room, getting to know the neighborhood with a walk to a restaurant on the bay, and relaxing in the hot tub. The next morning we enjoyed the touring Titanic Exhibit at the Royal Museum. The RM is one of my favorite places and I never miss seeing it on my trips to Victoria. The Titanic Exhibit was a nice addition and after seeing an IMAX movie regarding the discover of the Titanic and the recovery of artifacts from it, we spent 2 hours viewing those artifacts in person. A really touching exhibition. We finished our tour with lunch in the museum cafe, truly delectable, and then headed to Chinatown.

Chinatown is beautiful and within walking distance of the harbor and museum but you can also take a Pedi cab or horse drawn carriage ride. The central area is filled with street side Chinese restaurants, cafes, and food stands. There are souvenir and clothing type stores, but food and eatables are the mainstays here. The rest of our trip was spent exploring the Empress Hotel, the grand hotel that is seen from the harbor and covered in ivy, the site of grand afternoon teas. We also went to the amazing Butchart Gardens, another place that I never miss when visiting Victoria. The gardens are lavish beyond expectations and you can't help but be inspired to go home and start planting color. A stop at the Butterfly Gardens nearby allowed us to live with the butterflies for an hour or so, lots of fun. We thorghly enjoyed our vacation and once home began preparing for Halloween and Christmas. Yes, we're ready for you!

We hope you've had a chance this summer to sneek off and have some fun! Enjoy!
